Simplicity
Simplicity is a commonly used photographic technique where the photographer makes sure that a very plain background comprised of the same colour and no distractions is placed behind the point of interest of the photo. In doing this, it allows a point of interest in the photo to become more evident and stand out from the rest of the image. Examples of simplicity could be a red cricket ball with green grass for a background as the cricket ball would stand out immensely from the plain green background.
Example One
This photo is a good example of the Simplicity technique because it utilises the idea of having a single object within a plain background with no distractions to draw the viewer's focus away from the piece of bark which is the point of interest in the photo. The background is simply grass which is a simple green colour so it provides no distractions for the viewer to focus on.
Example Two
This photo is another good example of the Simplicity technique as the background is simply plain brickwork with no real distractions from the crushed can which is the emphasis of the photo. Even though the colour of the background is not consistent on all of the photo, it still poses no distractions as it is still similar to the rest of the background and uses the same brickwork pattern.
