Framing
Framing is a popular technique used by digital photographers all over the globe. The idea of framing is that a natural or man-made "frame" is used in the image to point out a point of interest mimicking looking out of a window at an object, building or living creature. A way to make framing effective is to have a dark background around the outside of the "frame" and have the focus of the camera pointed at the point of interest inside the "frame". The technique of framing is used worldwide to make it easier for the viewer to find the point of interest of a photo.
Example One
This photo is a good example of framing as it utilises the frame of an actual window to highlight the points of interest outside. Through the frame, the viewer can see that the birdhouse on the tree and the bell tower in the side of the photo is also standing out.
Example Two
This photo is a good example of framing because it uses the man-made soccer goal-post as a "frame". In doing this, it makes the point of interest of the photo the student standing in the middle of the goal. The background of the photo outside the frame is still visible yet the white frame stands out making the viewer look at the contents of it.
