Leading Lines
The Leading Lines technique is used by photographers to add the effect of a line crossing the image pointing towards a point of interest. In doing this, it is effectively "leading" the eye towards the focal point of the photo. Leading lines is a unique way to make a photo more interesting to look at. Examples of leading lines could be natural lines, such as vines or logs, or man made lines such as roads, fences or brickwork.
Example One
This photo is an effective example of the Leading Lines technique as it uses the brickwork on the ground and uses perspective to lead the viewer's eyes up the line to focus on the student which is the emphasis point of the photo. The horizontal lines along the lockers are also leading the eye along towards the student as well.
Example Two
This photo is a good example of leading lines as the placement of the photo is at the start of the beam so it extends through out the image creating a man-made line. The line draws the eye to the air conditioner and the building in the background which is the emphasis of the image.
